Blood Clot Is Gone

So, I guess the most important thing about this post is the talk about my CT scan results. Officially blood-clot free! I will spare you all the very frustrating, annoying details about doctors, waiting, waiting, needles, more waiting.

All that matters, really, is that the clot is gone. I will be on Xarelto for another six months, at least. I may not ever really know the cause of the clot. This, of course, is a bit unsettling. I feel like I'll always have this huge "what if" hanging over my head. Just waiting for another one essentially. Waiting, and hoping that it's caught in time.

I was off work on Friday, and spending almost the whole day in the doctors' offices is not the ideal way to spend a day off from work. But, I will say that my sister being there with me meant the world. It's not fun to spend time waiting, especially in such a depressing type of clinic. But she did. And she never complained.

After my scan, we both went and got our hair cut then picked up Jason so he could be there for the results. After the great news, we ran a few errands then met up with friends to celebrate.

Saturday was pretty low-key. Sarah had stayed the night then we got up and did a workout together, went shopping, and ran some more errands before she had to leave and get back home. Jason and I had a really late lunch then spent some time playing pool and listening to music.

Sunday was another wet, dreary day. I had hoped to get in a run before we had to head to our home town for Easter lunch with the families. But lightening, hail, thunder all added up to a treadmill run. I am thankful that I do have access to a treadmill through work. However, I will never be great friends with the old dreadmill. I did, however, manage to eek out 6.5 miles before calling it quits.

We spent the rest of the day with family. My sister hosted Easter lunch. We went with an easy theme - taco bar. Everyone could just build their own tacos, so it was super easy and super relaxed. Luckily the rain moved out and the sun finally started to show itself. This meant that the kiddos could hunt Easter eggs. Always fun to watch.

I didn't get pictures with my sis and I with our dad unfortunately. Sometimes I fail in the photography game. But, we did get a good one with us and our mom.

So, a great weekend despite rain, storms, excessive amount of time sitting and waiting. It was all spent with family and friends - with some great news as icing on the cake.

  1. So glad the you're blood clot free. Is the genetic testing super expensive? That would be something I would look into even if it wasn't covered personally.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
