Packing Woes and Way to Go Wednesday

Packing Woes
I don't know why, but this week is feeling crazy long. Anyone else feel that way? I am leaving Saturday for Long Beach, CA, so maybe the impending travel is making the week seem sort of off kilter.

I'll admit that I've already been stressing about what to pack, which includes food. The room doesn't have a microwave or mini-fridge. I know I can heat up oatmeal with water from the coffee pot, but I don't see that helping me out with any protein sources.

Being a vegetarian, I am often limited when I go to restaurants. So I almost always bring my own protein source to add to meager salads and sad piles of steamed veggies. When I travel, this can get trickier though. How do I store an open can of beans or tofu? How can I heat it up if needed?

I know that Laura at Sprint 2 the Table is a pro when it comes to food and traveling. I may be scouring her blog for some better ideas, and may be investing in a super cheap, throwawayable cooler for our room.

What do you worry most about when traveling? Food or clothes? Exercise?

I used to worry more about clothes then exercise. The hotel we're staying at has a full gym (with free weights) plus an already mapped running path. Score!

So now it's food then clothes.

Way to Go Wednesday
This week I feel like I need to give a bit shout out to everyone. So many amazing running events, achievements, donations, inspiration, and more.

First and foremost - a HUGE shout out to Brian at Pavement Runner for putting together the BostonStrong movement. If you participated, check out this post and share your photos with him please.

Coco at  Running with Perseverance for a PR at the George Washington Parkway Classic.

Katie Moves for taking 2nd in her age group at her first duathlon.

Angela at Happy Fit Mama for knocking out a PR at a recent 5 mile run.

Katie Heddleston for a 10K PR.

Who do you want to give a shout out to?

  1. Thanks for the shout out!!!

That's a tough one - no fridge stinks. I usually stress about clothes the most. So many what ifs - cold, warm, rain, walking, dressy, casual. I usually pack way to much and end up wearing only a few things.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th...

Weights, Run, & Road Trip Details

Two on Tuesday This morning my eyes opened wide at 4:55 am. I tried to go back to sleep, but quickly realized I was only fooling myself. So I got up and got my workouts done. Today was leg day with quad focus. Wide-stance squats - 3x8 Rear leg elevated lunges - 3x10 Firewalkers - 8 total Narrow-stance squats - 3x10 Static lunges - 3x10 Squats with low-end pulse - 3x8 Wall squats with ball - 6 reps of squat with 10 sec hold Outer thigh raises with ankle weights on ball - 2x24 We had storms roll through last night, so the temperatures dropped finally. It was 74 this morning, so I decided to take advantage of that and get in a short 20-minute run. When I first started out, I seriously didn't think I was going to get very far. My legs were already yelling at me. But, about half a mile into the run, they loosened up and it felt good. What's the Deal With the Road Trip? I am really glad I got the workouts done early. I feel like I still have so much to do to get ready ...
