5 by the 5th - May

It's hard to believe, but it's once again time for my 5 by 5th Virtual Run Series post. I managed to sneak in my 5 miles during my lunch break last Thursday.

You can't really tell from this picture, but I was covered in sweat. It was in the low 70's and really humid. Hard to believe that by the next morning it was 40 degrees. I guess we brought the cool temps from California home with us. It had been in the 80's while I was on vacation. Go figure right?

I was tired from the flight back from Long Beach, but desperately needed to get out and just run. I knew I was crunched for time, so I definitely pushed harder than I had intended. But, sometimes that works out right?

8:11 average
I suppose I have been using this virtual race series as a way to challenge myself. Initially it was just trying to get back into running after my blood clot ordeal, basically starting over. Now it's become more of a time challenge. I think it's paying off too.

I'm not usually one to set hard and fast goals for myself. I have general ideas, but I'm not very goal-specific, especially when it comes to training. I think this has been a nice, unintentional way to reach a goal of increasing my pace though.

Goal setting or mini-challenges - Yay or Nay?

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th...

Let's Have Coffee

If you're a regular blog reader, I'm sure you've seen similar posts, scenarios if you will, about what we might chat about or what I might say if we sat down and had coffee together. I think these can be fun. Maybe fun isn't the right word choice exactly. But maybe it is? They're transparent, showing who the blogger really is ... if they're being honest of course. It's not often you truly get to sit down with the person behind the blog. Banana Nut Biscotti with Banana Glaze If we were to have coffee together ... I would first let you know that I'm not a super fan of coffee. I drink mine with hot cocoa and it's mostly out of habit rather than the need for caffeine. I could forgo it on the weekends entirely. Since we're talking coffee, I would also let you know that I've never ordered coffee from Starbucks and only once from a true coffee shop. I've only been into 2 Starbucks shops - the original in Seattle and one in town wher...
