Mid-Week Musings

Happy Wednesday. Hope everyone's week is going smoothly. Mine has had it's ups and downs - guess it was part of last week, but we don't have to get into technicalities.

Disasters:
Saturday I had set out for a run. It was one of those runs where I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it at all. But then it was like a complete cathartic experience - sometimes a run is like a really good cry. Oh, and then you do cry at the end of 9 miles when you walk into your kitchen and see this disaster.

The picture doesn't quite show the total carnage. Maddie had gotten my purse and my lunch bag off the counter. She completely shredded the inside of the bag. She pulled out nearly every item out of my purse. She managed to open up my wallet and chew up gift cards, my CPR card, money.

She literally ate a tube of chapstick (only the cap remained), chewed into Imitrex, ate the entire package of gum minus one sliver of the outer packaging (but no wrappers survived), she exploded the Tide pen, ate up business cards, receipts. Yep. She had herself a grand old time.

Luckily, we had friends coming over for a pool day festival. That helped me take my mind off the destruction until I went into the house at one point and found that she had gotten a cabinet open and eaten yet another towel, magic eraser and even chewed into a package of those dishwasher pods.

Cheers:
On an up-note, I am 100% legit an ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer now! I had finished and passed my test earlier than I had anticipated so I had to scramble to do the CPR/AED training. All done!

Firsts:
On Sunday, I managed my longest bike ride - 40 miles. Even more impressive is that I finally managed to get my water bottle and drink while riding (and not falling in the process). When you're out on a bike and you're totally parched, envious of others swilling water so easily, you get really jealous. I told Jason once I wanted to tump him over actually.

Random:
I'll leave you with some randomness seen on our run yesterday morning. We were just chugging along and out of nowhere, I noticed this trailer of fish parked out in front of apartments on our running route. I've never seen it there before, but there it was. And there the fish were.

Maybe we were just delirious from the heat, but it was pretty darn funny. That of course meant that we had to stop and take pictures. I mean, it's not every day you see fish on your morning run.

How's your week been treating you so far? What's the most random thing you've seen while out on a run? What about the worst pet disaster you've come home to?

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
