Weekend Recap - Running, Cycling, Enjoying Life

I never really know how well-received weekend recap posts are, but I thought I'd do one anyway. I don't have any fantastic pictures to share, but I did have a pretty fantastic weekend. It was mostly about enjoying life, taking in the little things around me, taking in some amazing weather.

It started Friday evening when my sis came over with her kiddos to stay the night. They were crazy excited to stay with us. Jason played in the pool with C for a solid hour (maybe longer). I think they were both worn out.

While they played in the pool, I played Sorry with my sis and niece. I haven't played a board game in ages. I literally had to dust that one off. I'm so glad I've kept them all these years though. It was really fun playing with my niece. She's pretty competitive. I have no idea where that comes from ;-)

What was the most fun was seeing her really open up and just be silly and have fun. She's very much like me and often reserved and holds back. So to watch her open up and just be herself was a treat for me.

Saturday morning was a surprise with the temperature. We went from "lows" being mid-70's to 60 degrees. I couldn't wait to get out and run. The sky was that perfect Fall sky - pure blue, crisp air. Simply perfect. I had planned to do about 7 miles, but was so excited about the weather, I ended up with 9 miles done.

Sarah and the kids had to pack up and get back home, so we didn't really get to spend much time together Saturday. I did have a client to train though. We decided to take the workout to the park, and I'm so glad we did. She seemed to really enjoy the workout and being outside.

After doing several loads of laundry and dishes, I decided to sit out on the patio and read. I had no desire to be cooped up inside on such a gorgeous day.

Sunday was another beautiful day. Jason and I got in a 38-mile bike ride then indulged ourselves at a pizza place we enjoy. They've got really good pizzas, but also a nice patio to sit out on. The rest of the day was pretty lazy after that point. And I was completely ok with that. I made some homemade bread and pressed tofu to use during the week.

How was your weekend? Did you get to enjoy some incredible weather by chance?

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th...

Let's Have Coffee

If you're a regular blog reader, I'm sure you've seen similar posts, scenarios if you will, about what we might chat about or what I might say if we sat down and had coffee together. I think these can be fun. Maybe fun isn't the right word choice exactly. But maybe it is? They're transparent, showing who the blogger really is ... if they're being honest of course. It's not often you truly get to sit down with the person behind the blog. Banana Nut Biscotti with Banana Glaze If we were to have coffee together ... I would first let you know that I'm not a super fan of coffee. I drink mine with hot cocoa and it's mostly out of habit rather than the need for caffeine. I could forgo it on the weekends entirely. Since we're talking coffee, I would also let you know that I've never ordered coffee from Starbucks and only once from a true coffee shop. I've only been into 2 Starbucks shops - the original in Seattle and one in town wher...
