Fun For Friday - Confession Time

It's (finally) that day of the week again - Fun For Friday. It's been a LONG week, ok, it's been the same number of days as always, but it's felt long. Work has been busy and then there's that whole waking up at 5 am to run thing plus getting in my weight workouts either at lunch or after work.

So, I'm pretty tired by Friday. I did manage to get in one last early morning run today. It was one of those times when you do question your sanity though. The windchill was 22 degrees and the winds were crazy, gusting at 28 mph from the northwest. You never realize how often your route goes north or west until the wind is that direction.

Despite the weather, it was still a good run. The moon, in case you missed it, was simply amazing. I'm glad that we had clear skies so we could enjoy the glow, especially on streets that for whatever reason don't have the street lights on. What's up with that?

Anyway ... I've done a few Runfession posts, but thought today I'd ramble about something other than running or working out. I'm going to do some plain old confessions.

1.  I did not watch the Golden Globes (that was the award show this week right?), nor do I ever watch any award shows.

2.  I've never seen half of the shows everyone raves about like Breaking Bad (as one example).

3.  I've been using my new Kindle Fire to play Sudoku more than I've been using it to read.

4.  I keep seeing recipes floating around using coconut flour. I've never tried it and almost feel like it's another fad. Please chime in on this one!

5.  I'm supremely jealous of everyone who has Monday off. Please stop bragging.

6.  I've only ever watched American Idol for the tail end of one season. It was when Kris Allen was on. He's an Arkansas Native and his mom works for my company. I felt sort of obligated.

7.  I eat the same breakfast Monday through Friday. If I were to run out of a component to that breakfast, it would likely, no it would, throw me into a total tailspin (I know this because it has happened).
8. I ran one extra mile this morning to round out the miles to an even 30 rather than 29.

Ok, your turn. Give me a confession!

  1. Don't worry about the coconut flour. You really don't need it if you have Allmond meal. It's more for people who can't have nuts. But it's always great to try. You know?

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th...

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break. ...
