Fun for Friday - 4 Things I'm Miffed About

Happy Friday! Anyone else think short weeks somehow feel longer? And to top it off, it's been rainy and dreary all week long. I've forgotten what the sun looks like at this point. I guess the upside is that we don't have to water the garden.

I'll admit that this weather has left me in a bit of a snit. I know, I know ... look for the positives. And I am. For example, running in the rain means you're not dying of a heat stroke. But as the rain continues to pour down, the streets flood, my feet get soaked, I'm a bit miffed and that's my theme for Fun for Friday ;-)

I'm Miffed Because ...

My Garmin Died
My little jaunt in the rain yesterday cost me $99. Apparently my Garmin 610 is not actually waterproof as suggested. I have run in the rain many many times before, but yesterday was apparently the last straw for this costly piece of equipment. It's been freezing up lately, not charging, loosing charge and frustrating the heck out of me. At mile 1 yesterday, I felt it buzz, but the screen was totally blank and remains that way. I guess $99 to replace is better than shelling out cashola for a brand new one, but still. It was only 2 1/2 years old. Not cool.

MapMyRun is a Poor Substitute for the Garmin
Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad I have some sort of option available to help me navigate my runs, but it's not ideal to have to carry your phone in your hand to hear the lady call out the mile. Also, it can really get annoying when it goes haywire and she starts saying "Workout Paused," "Workout Resumed," "Workout Paused," "Workout Resumed," over and over and over again. And, the display - it's a huge map and teeny tiny below tells you the mileage, pace, time. I really just wanted to know mileage more than anything so I would know which direction to go so as not to go too far out and add unwanted mileage trying to get back home. It's also a big trip and fall hazard trying to look at the phone while running in case anyone was curious.

It Won't Stop Raining
Not only did the rain kill my Garmin, I have fantastic chafing marks from my shorts, my feet have been wet all week basically (sandals are not a smart rainy day choice by the way), the dogs refuse to go out in the yard and who can blame them, but that means indoor messes.

Parenthood Season 5 is Not on Amazon Prime
I know, silly thing to be miffed about. But I've become slightly addicted to riding my bike on the trainer and watching Parenthood. I went to start Season 5 and realized it's not on Prime, meaning it's $2.99 an episode. Um, nope. Not gonna happen.

This is my "I'm annoyed with Garmin, MapMyRun and Rain" Face as it started pouring once again.
Ok, now that I have all of that silliness off my chest, what are you miffed about this week?

Comments

  1. This weather has definitely been strange!! All this on and off again rain!

Hope you find a good replacement watch. I am on my 3rd garmin since June 2009. I have found 2-2.5 years is about as far as they'll take me. This is why I spend $130-180 on them. Not $350 like my friends. I have forerunner 350.
    Have a great weekend !

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
