Great Runs, Rain and Sister Time

I'm convinced that Arkansas has been transported to the far northwest corner of the US. We have had rain, rain, and more rain. I feel like I should invest in a boat to get around at this point. Luckily, it wasn't storming when I set out for my runs this weekend, just wet. I guess the upside is that the rain keeps me cooler on the runs. That's something positive right?

Saturday morning I woke up before 6 am because of dearest Maddie barking. I was up. It was as cool as it was going to be for the day, so I headed out for my run. I saw lots of other runners out and about. Chatted briefly with one man who was out for a 20+ mile run.

I was happy that it was overcast, light breeze. I zigzagged and meandered through the neighborhood and near the river. I'm still using Jason's Suunto (because my refurbished Garmin was a total dud and had to go back, total other story though), which measures pace in mph. This completely throws me off, so I've not been managing my pace very well. I've been going a lot faster than I've intended. Thankfully, I've felt really good (likely because of the cooling rain), so I'm not fighting the run. It's not feeling miserable. In fact, I felt downright giddy during my long run. I managed just over 10 miles at an 8:13 pace.

I got cleaned up, did some chores, then waited on my sister to come over. The sun did come out, which was a nice treat. We got to enjoy some pool time finally. Our friends also came over a bit later to join us for some ultimate pool time.

After everyone had left, I was on the computer perusing Facebook and saw a post from the 3 Bridges Marathon that there were 5 spots left. This marathon intrigues me because we only have 2 marathons in Little Rock, the BIG ONE, the Little Rock Marathon and now this new marathon. I actually ran into part of it last year by accident.

Anyway, long story short, I hit submit before I could talk myself out of it and am now registered for my first full marathon. I won't lie, my heartbeat becomes rapid just thinking about it. I have a good 6 months to work this out in my head though, oh, and to train. Anyone want to do some long runs with me?

Sunday morning it was raining with no clearing in sight. I ended up getting in a really good 7.5 mile run. It was one of those runs where I had to force myself to stop. I was just out there totally zoned out in my happy place.

My sister had texted while I was running asking if I was indeed running that morning. She was wanting me to go walk with her. I told her I didn't mind getting back out there, I was already soaking wet anyway. So, she stopped by and we headed out in the rain for a walk. She's clearly just as nuts as I am. It's why I love her so! We got in 4.8 fun miles together laughing and visiting. It was a real treat I must say.

We got cleaned up and then ended up going out for lunch before hitting up the grocery store. The rest of the day was spent making bread and being fairly lazy. Jason and I watched a movie and I was in bed by 9pm.

How was your weekend?

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
