Spring Forward Sunday: Leg Day and Grilled Tempeh Sandwiches

Sunday Leg Day
Well with the time change, I woke up already behind for the day. Isn't that a daunting feeling. While I really didn't feel much up to it, I did manage to do my leg workout and then an easy run with Jason and the pups. This was their 2nd true run with us so it was still a little (or lot) herky jerky with lots of sudden stops and de-tangling. Legs were from Cathe's Pyramid Lower Body (sans DVD). It was the same workout I did last Sunday. 12, 10, 8, 10, 12 increasing then decreasing the weight with as little rest in between each rep.

Step Ups
Static Lunges
Squats into Plie Squats
Calf Raises(3 sets of 25 reps)

Needless to say, the run wasn't going to be a fast or easy one even if we hadn't taken the dogs along with us. My legs were feeling a little heavy and wobbly.

Sunless Sunday
Today was supposed to have been sunny. Surprise, mostly cloudy. It was at least 5 degrees warmer than yesterday. We had to go to the grocery store after working out then it was on to trying to tackle some yard work. We cut back rose bushes, cleared out the garden beds and flower pots, and did a ton of weeding. We still  have quite a bit left to do. We didn't even make it to the front yard. I'm really hoping for good weather next weekend so we can get more work done outside. It's also a good excuse to ignore laundry, dusting, sweeping!

Even though it wasn't sunny, we were determined to take advantage of the extended daylight. I mean, really that's the only good thing about the time change. So we decided to grill out for dinner. Jason actually sort of forced me to take a break from cooking duties and just relax. It was seriously hard for me not to get my hands in the mix. He made Grilled Tempeh and Veggie Sandwiches with Grilled Sweet Potato "Fries." For the tempeh marinade, he used a chipotle honey mustard thinned out with champagne vinegar. Veggies included squash, zucchini, and red onion. It was served on Orowheat Sandwich Thins with fresh spinach and provolone cheese.

I certainly hope everyone had a great weekend no matter what the weather was like where you are!

  5. Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean it was sooo hard to just sit back, but I did pretty good. I did plate the food for the pics though.

Candice @ ChiaSeedMe look forward to reading about how you did your marinade. I will say that this particular chipotle honey mustard was super sticky!

  6. i am LOVING this extended daylight althought today is rainy and yucky so its pretty dark still at 8:40am! oh well, summer is SO soon! I wish I liked tempeh, but I just cannot stomach taht stuff :(

  7. STEP UPS>>> love to hate them! YOWCH! I have had step ups in my plan every Friday for the last 4 weeks....a brutal way to end the week. But they do wonders for the hams and glutes so I suck it up and get er done!

  8. yummy fries! What kind of dogs do you have? I think running with dogs make the run so much better!

  9. I just loved grilled veggie sandwiches. I have made something similar a while back..I will definitely have to make it again!
    Have a great week!

  10. Naomi @ One Fit Foodie I can see how tempeh isn't for everyone! It's finally sunny here today so I know I'll be appreciating the time change tonight!

Joanna Sutter @ Fitness and Spice yep, steps ups are a love/hate thing for me too! You're so right, you just have to get 'er done period!

Lisa @ I'm an Okie we have 2 cocker spaniels. They LOVE going on walks and really need more exercise, so we're hoping to get them used to running with us.

Kristen @ Swanky Dietitian we make lots of grilled veggie sandwiches when the weather is nice. Love 'em too! Some of my favorite combos are portobellos with red bell pepper and goat's cheese.

  11. I can't help it! Rainy weather always puts me down a bit.

ps your heading made me want summer even more : )

Hump Day and More Pineapples

Full-Body Workout  I'll readily admit that getting up this morning was quite painful and almost didn't happen. I forced myself out of bed though not exactly excited about tackling a full-body Pyramid workout. Sort of daunting at 5 am really. I did the warm up from Shock Cardio Cardio Core Circuit (cardio only premix) then hit the weights. It was a pyramid up only so I increased my starting weight. I topped it all off with the first 2 1/2 drills from the cardio workout. I ran short on time and was basically spent. Squats into Plie Squats Step Ups (seriously hate these especially at 5:30 am) Incline Chest Flyes into Chest Press Pullovers into DB Underhand Rows Step Ups (freaking again) Static Lunges Overhead DB Press into Lateral Raises Deadlifts Kickbacks into Overhead Extensions Hammer Curls into Alternating Curls Calf Raises I am so excited to report that my new cross-trainers and running shoes arrived today. Can't wait to test both of them out. I waited way way way too

Hitting the Gym and Lazy Means Creative Tex-Mex Creation

Sunday, Gym Day Why do vacations and min-vacations go by so quickly? Just doesn't seem quite right. Anyway, we left Branson around 9:30 am to head back home. It was a pretty uneventful drive back, which is usually a good thing. We got home and unpacked, then I headed up to the gym. I started with a 10-minute treadmill run to warm up before hitting the weights for back and light legs then abs. I went with a giant set for back then supersets for legs. GS - 4x8 Underhand barbell rows Pullovers Double-arm rows SS#1 Rear-leg elevated lunges (Bulgarian Split Squats) - 3x8 Calf raises - 3x20 SS#2 - 2x8 Walking lunges Plie squats with low-end pulse Single-leg deadlifts - 2x8 I did some ab exercises, stretched, and called it quits. Lazy = Crazy Dinner I may have made it to the gym and washed a few loads of laundry, but I never made it to the grocery store - lounging in the pool trumped grocery shopping. This meant getting creative with dinner. We had another package
