Spring Forward Sunday: Leg Day and Grilled Tempeh Sandwiches

Sunday Leg Day
Well with the time change, I woke up already behind for the day. Isn't that a daunting feeling. While I really didn't feel much up to it, I did manage to do my leg workout and then an easy run with Jason and the pups. This was their 2nd true run with us so it was still a little (or lot) herky jerky with lots of sudden stops and de-tangling. Legs were from Cathe's Pyramid Lower Body (sans DVD). It was the same workout I did last Sunday. 12, 10, 8, 10, 12 increasing then decreasing the weight with as little rest in between each rep.

Step Ups
Static Lunges
Squats into Plie Squats
Deadlifts
Calf Raises(3 sets of 25 reps)

Needless to say, the run wasn't going to be a fast or easy one even if we hadn't taken the dogs along with us. My legs were feeling a little heavy and wobbly.

Sunless Sunday
Today was supposed to have been sunny. Surprise, mostly cloudy. It was at least 5 degrees warmer than yesterday. We had to go to the grocery store after working out then it was on to trying to tackle some yard work. We cut back rose bushes, cleared out the garden beds and flower pots, and did a ton of weeding. We still  have quite a bit left to do. We didn't even make it to the front yard. I'm really hoping for good weather next weekend so we can get more work done outside. It's also a good excuse to ignore laundry, dusting, sweeping!

Even though it wasn't sunny, we were determined to take advantage of the extended daylight. I mean, really that's the only good thing about the time change. So we decided to grill out for dinner. Jason actually sort of forced me to take a break from cooking duties and just relax. It was seriously hard for me not to get my hands in the mix. He made Grilled Tempeh and Veggie Sandwiches with Grilled Sweet Potato "Fries." For the tempeh marinade, he used a chipotle honey mustard thinned out with champagne vinegar. Veggies included squash, zucchini, and red onion. It was served on Orowheat Sandwich Thins with fresh spinach and provolone cheese.

I certainly hope everyone had a great weekend no matter what the weather was like where you are!

Lisa @ I'm an Okie we have 2 cocker spaniels. They LOVE going on walks and really need more exercise, so we're hoping to get them used to running with us.

Kristen @ Swanky Dietitian we make lots of grilled veggie sandwiches when the weather is nice. Love 'em too! Some of my favorite combos are portobellos with red bell pepper and goat's cheese.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
