Saturday Dinner Follow Up & Lazy Sunday

Saturday Night Off
Last night I took the night off from cooking. I let Jason do the work while I sat back with a glass of wine. He made a healthier take on chicken piccata using a Quorn cutlet for a Quorn Picatta with roasted potatoes and roasted asparagus with lemon. The sauce was made by sauteing minced red onions, garlic, capers, and white wine. Just at the end you stir in butter. However, I took my sauce portion for the pictures before the butter was added, hence the chunkier sauce in the picture of my plate. If you like capers, then this is the sauce for you!

We ended watching House Bunny after dinner with a bowl of popcorn dressed up with raisins, cranberries and peanut butter chips. Thankfully the movies wasn't as bad as it could have been. It was a silly movie, but sometimes that's just what you want.

Lazy Sunday
The temps today are only in the mid-60's. A drastic change over last weekend's 80 degree temps. I was so hoping to be done with longer sleeves. Sigh. Anyway, Jason was scheduled to do weights today and we were planning on a run. I started off my day with a bowl of PB&J&B Oatmeal. I figured that would sustain me through the run.

After eating, I proceeded to sit my lazy butt on the couch and watch The Food Network. I became lazier and lazier the longer I sat. The thought of running was like pure craziness. However, I had committed to the run in my mind. It was super windy out, so of course that never makes a run feel particularly easy. My sinuses were all clogged up so I was having a really hard time controlling my breathing. All in all, it was a sucky run. But, I didn't slow down or stop, I pushed through and got it done. We only did 3.5 miles today. I felt a little disappointed with myself. But, each day is a new day and each run is different. I also did abs today and stretched. My hamstrings were killing me from yesterday's workout.

We had a super late lunch at Vino's today. Not the healthiest food at all. But we were just wanting to get out of the house, sit back and totally relax. Vino's is most definitely the ideal place to accomplish such goals. Since we ate so late, dinner is still undecided. It will be something very light I'm sure. Perhaps a salad or snacky plate. The plan is to relax and catch up on some DVR'ed shows this evening before heading into the work week tomorrow.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend!

  1. Ha, I hate when I have a sucky run because I really am not in the mood to run and do it anyway. Not sure what's the worst self-beat up, the decision NOT to run or to run anyway and have it suck ;-) so, I know what you mean! I am with you on the lazy Sunday, enjoying the DVR myself tonight ;)

  4. Sorry you had a tough run. Not feeling like exercising happens to all of us from time to time. Good for you for getting it done even though you didn't want to. :-)

Jason did a great job on dinner. Glad you got to relax with a glass of vino.

  11. Jolene @ To Be Determined You are so right about the run decision. Basically, at that point, either way you're doomed LOL!

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg I'd love to hear what you think about that sauce if you give it a shot. It's super easy and full of flavor b/c of the capers.

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel It really is a frustrating feeling. I'll just keep in mind what went wrong and learn from it though - like take allergy meds.

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean Yep, got it done and didn't wimp out and stop the run early at least. I was resigned to doing at least 30 mins. I was hoping I'd somehow hit my stride. Oh well, tomorrow. It was definitely nice being the one sitting down while dinner was being made!

Tess @ Tess Loves Food Made From Food If I hadn't been running with my husband, it's fairly likely I would not have run at all! I would have probably done step aerobics instead. I agree with you on both the capers and nut butters. MMMMM

Kristen @ Swanky Dietitian yep, relaxing and Food Network go hand-in-hand for me!!

Alyson @ Nourished Fitness I'm typically not a super lazy person but yesterday was BAD. The longer I sat, the less I wanted to get out of PJs even. Glad I'm not alone on that one.

Kris @ iheartwellness I should have taken sinus meds for starter, but I think I really just wasn't in the mood to run and did so anyway. House Bunny was a cute movie. It was a little silly. Definitely one that doesn't require a lot of thought.

Fit and Forty Something Will you think of me and how the run sucked??? LOL ;-) I just have a hard time imagining you not being motivated.

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga Yes ma'am I did recently change the avatar! Glad "where's the beach" makes sense now!!!

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
