Rest Day on Thursday
Today is like my Friday as I am off work tomorrow. My legs are screaming at me from yesterday's hill repeats, so I am happily taking today as my rest day. I will, however, admit that it's sort of hard to take today off. It's another gorgeous day and I believe I'm getting addicted to the lunchtime runs. But, I'll behave myself and listen to my body.

Tomorrow I plan on starting a new weight rotation. Really looking forward to that actually. I am taking the concept of the Chad Waterbury Total-Body Training rotation that I did previously but with a little bit of a change. I felt that it was an awesome upper body rotation. I saw some real gains in that area, however, lower body seemed to suffer. So rather than doing 3 total body days working each muscle group with only one exercise, I am going to alternate between total body with more leg work, an upper only with plyo legs, then another total body with more leg work.

The the general set up is that Weeks 1 and 2 I use a different exercise for each muscle each day of the week and each day the sets/reps change. Week 1 is done as a straight sets and Week 2 is done as supersets with the goal of increasing the weight 1.25-1.75%. Then weeks 3 and 4 the sets will increase by 1. Weeks 5 and 6, the sets/reps completely switch starting the week with super high reps and ending with low. Same again for Weeks 7 and 8 with sets increasing by 1. Sorry if this is all boring and confusing. Here's an example of Weeks 1 - 4.
Happy Hour Canceled
I was supposed to be heading to a Girls' Martini Happy Hour, but that sort of fell through unfortunately. Maybe it was for the best though. I don't usually drink martinis, but there is the swanky little restaurant around the corner from my office that offers $4 fruit infused martinis for ladies on Thursday nights. I almost never go to the happy hour because I work on Fridays and don't typically go out on "school" nights. However, I am off tomorrow so thought I might actually enjoy one of these awesome bad boys. Seriously, they are almost too good. The flavors change weekly from melon infused to combos like pineapple and strawberry. MMMMM.

I usually prefer beer or wine over hard liquor. Are you a martini drinker?

Boring Dinner for a Post (but tasty)
Jason did end up meeting me at Lulav, but they only had one martini flavor "ready" and the service stunk. Sorry, not sticking around for that. So we went next door to a relaxed little lunch spot that we typically hit for Friday happy hour. At least the service is good there. We just enjoyed relaxed conversation for about an hour then headed home. No fancy dinner tonight. Just a go-to dinner of a pre-made veggie patty (Eggplant Cannellini Burgers) and baked sweet potato "fries." Yep, sometimes I can be boring with meals LOL. Since this is such a staple, I opted out of photos. I hope you don't mind. BUT if you don't mind repeat pics, let me know please. I'll post pics of dinners, even repeats, if you that's what you guys want. I'm here to please. ;-)

  1. I don't have a problem with repeat pictures at all! We all have those nights where we just need an easy "go to" meal. Pictures just make posts so interesting!

  4. I love the look of that rotation! I'm deep in Meso 2 right now but always on the lookout for new ideas. Keep posting details and the rest of your weeks. What are you doing for the plyo work?

  6. Hi Lizzy hope you enjoy your eggplant. I need to pick up some more to grill myself. Yum. Thanks for the idea.

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga it was probably for the best that it was canceled. LOL

Hi Patti I think for plyo I'll likely do some of the HIIT workouts. 40/20 and 30/30 are very similar to the plyo drills from STS plyo legs. Plus they're short. Looking forward to this one.

  7. Good for you for sticking to the rest day even though you *really* wanted to run. I know the feeling. I almost doubled up last night and ran after work because it finally got sunny here but chose to have a bit of a mini "date night" with Scott instead since he's working most of the weekend. It was worth it. :) Have an awesome day off from work today!

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
