Saturday Follow Up & Sunday Splurge

Let's Play Ball
To start, I wanted to thank you all for your extremely kind compliments from yesterday's post. It really isn't easy for me to post pictures of myself in a bikini (or in general truth be told). Sometimes I think it's good for me though, pushing myself out of comfort zones and learning to accept compliments. So...I truly appreciate your kindness.

Last night we enjoyed a baseball game. It turned out to be a very pleasant evening - nice breeze, lowered humidity. The game, however, was a SLOW one. But, the company was terrific (sis and hubby) and the weather fantastic. We did run into some other people we know. That's always fun.

Workout Frenzy
This morning we got up and just eased into the morning. I was planning on back, chest, and abs and some sort of cardio. Sarah decided she wanted to do Cathe Friedrich's MMA Boxing. I couldn't refuse that request. So while she did that, I did my weights. Poor Jason came up to spot me for chest and said, "I think I'm in exercise hell, it's everywhere." He's such a trooper. I did the following as drop sets of 4 sets of 8 reps:

Pullovers
Double-arm rows
Underhand dumbbell rows

Flat bench chest press
Flat bench chest flyes
Incline chest press

I followed it up with some stability ball ab work then Cathe Friedrich's MMA Kickboxing. There was a lot of punching going on in the household this morning ;-)

Sunday Splurge
All in all, this was a great weekend. I truly cherish the time I get to spend with my family and my sister. I must say, I was really sad to see my sis leave. I just love spending time with her. I wish we lived closer so we could visit more frequently. If you have siblings, are you close to them? Do you live close to each other?

I decided I had earned a bit of pool/patio time. So I sat out and read for about an hour and a half. The clouds started rolling in and it looked like rain, so I decided it was probably a sign to pack it up. I was also getting really hungry. Jason and I have not been out to eat in over a month. We decided to splurge today and go eat at one of our favorite pizza joints, Vino's. It's not the best pizza around, not the worst of course, but the atmosphere is just hard to pass up. It is prime people watching!

Alas, I must admit that it was a splurge that we should have avoided. Shortly after my last bite, I quickly realized that my tummy was not happy one bit. I just felt completely "ick." I was so looking forward to going out and not worrying about eating, just enjoying the food, company, atmosphere. Maybe it's because it's been so long since I've eaten that kind of rich food? I know I eat pizza every Friday, but it's topped with vegan cheese and loads of veggies. Oh well...no dwelling on it I suppose.

With that being said, I have no idea what's in store for dinner. Maybe just a salad depending on how the tummy is feeling.

I hope you all have had a fantastic weekend!

Sounds like a fantastic end to the weekend with your sis, I'm so glad you got to spend such quality time with her! AND I'm glad you're learning to accept compliments - its hard to do (I face the same problem too) - but own it girl, you work hard, enjoy the compliments. :) As for the eating out part - don't beat yourself up over it, I wonder if you are partly having that "ick" tummy feeling because you let yourself feel a little bit guilty for indulging? Just a thought...but if you were feeling guilt, please push it down. You work so hard, eat so well (better than me!) and deserve a splurge here and there.

  2. I understand the problem with accepting compliments. I think that is a problem many of us have. ;-)

Jason sounds like he has a sense of humor very similar to my hubby who claims to live with the nutrition nazi of in a nutrition nightmare depending on his mood.

When you eat really clean most of the time your system doesn't like the fat from eating out. I have had some fairly violent reactions to eating out. Sorry to hear your meal out didn't sit well with you. But looking on the bright side that is a sign of how good your standard diet is. I would say all in all it was a good thing. ;-)

    talk to you later,
    Ali

I'm glad you got to spend time with your sister! I have one sister - she's two years older and we're super close! She lives in Kansas and I'm in Maryland - so it's tough. She also just had a baby last fall, so that makes it even worse! I'm going home this upcoming weekend...so excited to see her and the rest of my fam!

  4. Um, what Jess said ;-) But I must say, you look SO good, that I can't imagine it being hard for you to take pics of yourself in a bikini! I absolutely refuse to (only chest up!)...but I guess that just speaks to our own inner anxieties about our bodies that nobody else quite understands. I wish you and your sis lived closer to each other (and to us haha)...it makes such a different living 5 miles away from Jess. I wouldn't be able to handle much farther! But your weekend together sounds fantastic...and the workout together too!

  5. We are our worst critics aren't we! But you look FABULOUS!
I have no siblings and am very happy I don't but I can understand missing your sis, glad you got to spend this weekend with her! How far does she live from you?
Sorry you couldn't enjoy your meal out. I also get stomach sick at time when I eat rich foods after eating so clean. I hope you are feeling better now!

  6. i hate when indulgences turn out not to be worth it or just feel icky! Glad you got to see you sis though! And glad you enjoyed your weekend-looks like a fun day at the ballpark.

  7. We worked on the house this weekend, so yes it was good, but not a "fun" time. I am close with the sister that is closest to me in age. However we live far apart. At this point, it will be a year before I see her again. My other two sisters are much younger than me, so I seem like an old woman to them. I love them and are close to them in many ways, but at this point, they just don't really need me. I am completely with you on being able to eat rich foods. We never go out and now when we do (maybe once ever other month) I just can't take it. I hope you feel better!

That picture of you and your sister is way cute! My younger brother and I are very close, and we have always been. It stinks that we live on opposite sides of the country from each other!

  10. I'm glad you are letting go and realizing that accepting compliments is a good thing...b/c everyone of them is true.

I know what oyu mean about splurges--I had some spaghetti tonight--and not the whole wheat iwth lots of veggies kind--and my tummy felt it.

  11. My family always jokes that eastern europeans always compliment each other by telling you how wrong/ugly/stupid you are!
So when someone gives me a real compliment, I totally dont believe it.
We all need splurges from time to time, they keep us sane. I actually need to do it more often.
I have an older half sister (by 15 years) but when my mom died, we kind of lost touch cause she was our binder. She has two kids now and is so different than what she was like when I was young. Shes like a hardcore mommy so we dont have much in common.
We talk on the phone a few times a week but I personally cant stand that all she talks about are her kids. I love her kids, but its like, talk about something else! sorry to rant. I really hope not to become one of those moms!

  12. Hope you're feeling better!

I have 2 brothers that I'm very close to. I'm super lucky that they live nearby. At one point, they were both in different cities and I was not a happy girl.

Weekends are great when you get to spend quality time with the family and just relax! Glad you had fun :)

I hadn't had pizza for almost 2 years during the time that I was struggling with ED. And so when I started to return to "normal" eating, my first slice of pizza actually made my tummy a little upset! It's all used to it now!

  14. Jessica @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat Glad to know I'm not the only one who has a hard time with compliments. As for the food, I honestly think it was not having eaten out in so long. I was really looking forward to just sitting back and enjoying the pizza and a beer (or 2) and people watching on a lazy Sunday.

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean Yes, he definitely has a sense of humor - he has to living with me! LOL. I agree with you about the diet thing. Stinks in some ways though b/c then you start to worry about eating out and how it'll make you feel.

Courtney @ Three Months Oh wow, I can't imagine living that far from my sister and her kids. I know you can't wait for the weekend to get here!

Jolene @ To Be Determined I would LOVE to live only 5 miles from my sis (and close to you lovely ladies too). You work so hard working out too though so I'd think that you'd have nothing to be self-conscious about!

Bela @ It's Life, Max it Out Thank you! She is about an hour away. Doesn't sound like much, but it keeps us from just dropping by easily.

Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose Thanks girl - we had a great time.

Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen I would imagine age differences can play a big roll in how close siblings are. I couldn't imagine going a year without seeing my sis.

Holly @ Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices Congrats to your sister. Being an aunt is so much fun.

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans Love to hear that you're close with your brother. My sister was worried that her daughter and son may not be as close as we are.

Lisa @ I'm an Okie Thanks sweetie! Makes you wonder how people can eat poorly consistently.

Eden's Eats That's a pretty big age difference so I could see how you wouldn't be nearly as close. I guess I just need to pick my splurges better next time ;-)

Eunice @ Food 4 Fitness Thanks girl - definitely better today. So glad that you guys are close and live close!

Elaine @ Om Sweet Om I can't imagine going without pizza for 2 years ;-) I guess I'll just have to stick to my homemade pizzas though. Glad you're able to enjoy pizza now!

  15. It sounds like you had a great weekend! BTW, I adore underhand grip rows...they make me feel so strong!

  16. Looks like an awesome weekend!! I have one older brother and we've actually gotten a lot closer since I've moved off to college. I think it's the fact we're starting to study the same things and have more in common. We still argue about absolutely everything, but we can laugh about it now. ;)

  17. Hey honey bun! I went back and caught up and just want you to know that you are smokin in the bikini! I am glad you owned it! I am so bad about bathing suits too...I don't even remember the last time I actually wore a bathing suit without shorts. I NEVER go just in a bikini...ever! So I am proud of you for doing it! :)

  18. Love the baseball pics, so fun! I only have one sibling, a little brother and he lives far far away in Phoenix. It kills me that he is so far away, and I definitely treasure the time we spend together. Glad you got to spend some quality time with your sis.

  20. aw, I did the same thing last night, splurged with a taco salad that sounded SO good, and I paid for it all night. :( and it's funny, I had a great conversation yesterday about splurging, and I was saying I'd rather splurge with real food rather than fast food or something in a restaurant... and look what I did. :) i suppose I need to listen to myself :)

sounds like a great weekend - so fun to spend time with siblings :)

  21. Joanna Sutter @ Fitness & Spice Underhand rows are that type of exercise aren't they!?!

Mary @ Bites & Bliss Thanks so much for stopping by. At least you can argue AND laugh!

Kelly @ Healthy Living with Kelly Thank you girl! You're too kind.

Sarah @ The Ordinary Vegetarian So sorry you aren't closer (geographically) to your brother. It does make you appreciate time together so much more though.

Erica @ Fashion Meets Food Hope you take some ballpark pics to share!

Kristina @ SpaBettie Doesn't it just stink to be let down with food though. Sigh. Funny how we can say one thing and do another. Why is it harder to listen and take our own advice sometimes?

  22. Ahhh honey, it is so true, We are our worst critics! I think you are gorg and look so wonderful! I would be showing off my bod too if it as a tight as yours ;)

I think your weekend sounds fabulous and you and your hubby are so cute!

  24. I have 2 siblings that both live close to me, and we are friends, but not as close as I would like to be.

  25. Gotta love summer baseball games! I went back at looked at the bikini post you referenced--you look fantastic! And it looks like you and your sister are really close.

My sister and I are 14 months apart, and we get along like peas and carrots. Growing up, though, we fought like crazy! Funny how that works sometimes, right? She lives 22 hours away from me, and I really do miss her! I truly believe that siblings are the ties to your past and are some of only people who truly know you :)

  26. You rocked that bikini yesterday!

This looks like a fun game. I think the food was probably too rich for you. That's been happening to me lately as well. I had cheesecake the other night and felt sick afterwards.

  27. Fit Chick in the City Thanks so much for stopping by!

Jolene @ Everyday Foodie Sorry to hear you're not as close as you'd like. I appreciate you sharing.

B Foxy Fitness Thanks girl! Yes, we're super close, but we definitely have had our share of fighting (mostly as kids). Wow - 14 months apart! Ugh, I can't imagine living so far apart.

Emily @ Sugar Plum Thanks sweetie! I'm thinking it was the richness too. Oh cheesecake....

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
