Exhausted but Finally Some Grilling

Workouts
This morning I had ever intention of getting up to get in a step workout. The lows are in the 80's (yes, lows) so by the afternoon, the A/C is struggling to keep up with the 100+ temps. Definitely no running outside right now. And PM workouts are like working out inside the sauna. Let's put it this way, upstairs was close to 90 degrees even though the thermostat was set just below 75. Not conducive to a "fun" workout folks. But, maybe I'm just a whimp/whiner.

Anyhoo, I woke up around 3:45 am and quickly changed the a alarm time. I figured I could at least do biceps/triceps at lunch then step after work downstairs (where it's just a little bit cooler. I've been itching to do step again after the Cathe Road Trip, which is funny since I haven't done step in weeks. Today I did supersets for biceps/triceps doing 3 sets of 8 reps:

SS#1
Biceps dumbbell curls
Overhead triceps extension

SS#2
Cross-body curls
Double-arm kickbacks

SS#3
Incline curls (on stability ball)
Lying dumbbell extensions (on stability ball)

SS#4
Zottman curls
Weighted dips

The workout was a tough one for me today. I was feeling really weak from the start. It's strange, because I got in a workout (run, weights, elliptical) on Tuesday morning then legs and boxing yesterday with no problems. In fact, they felt good. Today has been a different ball game for me.

I did end up doing about 40 minutes of Step Blast. I had told myself that I would do at least 10-minutes and if I felt like going on, then I would and if I needed to stop then I would. I actually felt really good, so I kept going but stopped before I started to stumble over the step.

I will go ahead and say that tomorrow will likely be a second rest day this week for me. Perhaps I should not have really counted Monday as a rest day since we did nothing but walk for about 6 hours. Guess that's not truly resting in hindsight. Silly me right?

Dinner

I have really been wanting to grill out, but it's simply too hot. Heating up the kitchen is a much better alternative to standing outside near a grill when it's over 105 degrees. Thankfully we had a front move through and the temps dropped a little over 10 degrees. Jason decided to take over the grill and grilled corn on the cob, sweet potato "fries" and some black bean burgers he picked up at the Argenta Market. We topped the burgers with grilled red bell peppers, spinach, and Soy Kaas Monterey Jack "Cheese." For the corn, Jason put the corn in aluminum foil with a splash of wine, salt, pepper, and garlic.

On a slightly funny side note, I will admit to you all that for the past two days I have been a stumbling, bumbling, klutzy fool. I'm like a 2-year old 4 hours past her nap trying my best to stay awake. I have spilled barley, pushed the cork into my wine bottle then shot wine out because it somehow pressurized, hit my head on a closed freezer door, managed to get my toenail polish all over my hands and finger nails, dropped just about everything I touch...Do you ever become uber klutz?

  12. Sadly I am an uber klutz all the time. It's pretty much a disability for me now haha I trip constantly, drop things regularly and break things at least once a day. It was even more heartbreaking the day it was pointed out to me. I wish I was still living on in my ignorant bliss lol

  13. Loving those sweet potato wedges! I have got to try my hand at black bean burgers and a portobello burger.

  14. I really want to try that soy kaas cheese, it always looks so good in all of your pictures. Maybe you are just klutzy while you are trying to get back into the swing of things after all of your traveling. Maybe this weekend will recharge you and get you back to normal :)

  15. YUM!!! Black bean burgers, sweet potato fries and corn are some of my favorite things!!! I'm so hungry for them now!

I've been kinda klutzy lately too, it's so random I just end up laughing at myself (most of the time anyway)

  16. Oh no, the dreaded wine cork debacle. That's the worst, lol. If I get tired it's like a danger zone to be around me. My mother is way worse, that woman runs into all sorts of crap.

Can you please come make me some of your yummy fries - wow they look great.

Dawn @ Florida Coastal Cooking OH you must try a portobello burger at the very least!

Sarah @ The Ordinary Vegetarian We are liking the soy kaas. It melts soooo well so it's perfect for grilled sandwiches.

Kara @ My Wellnest It's hard to go wrong with those 3 items isn't it! I have definitely done my fair share of laughing at myself.

Nichole @ Live for the Run Klutziness definitely runs in my family too and I think I am even rubbing off on my husband.

  21. hope you're enjoying your second rest day - you totally deserve it!!

I think our weather patterns follow each other. We just got a cold front the night before last and the highs have been in the upper 90s now. I'm so ready for fall!

I totally hear ya on the klutz thing - I do it everywhere though, not just the kitchen!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Um yeah, I have cut myself so many times cutting veggies it's not even funny. But isn't there nothing like sweet potato fries and grilled corn on the cob? Yum.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's tough when there's no "perfect" time to work out. Especially anything outdoor with this heat. These <100* days need to hurry up and get out of here and Fall needs to take it's place..and stay longer!! haha The only good time to work outdoors is before dawn or after dark (and even *then* it's still hot!!)

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is now my favorite recipe! It is so easy to make, and is absolutely delicious!!! Make sure you prepare twice as much, because you will not be able to stop eating it! Also - keep the napkins close by as it is a meal that you will really get in to!

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
