Lazy Sunday

Hubby Does Triathlon, I Do Weights & Boxing
This morning Jason got up super early to head down to Lake DeGray for this triathlon. I feel like the bad wife, I stayed behind and slept in until about 8 am. He gave me the OK to stay home for this one though. He hadn't been training like he normally would and knew it wouldn't be his best race. However, for someone not properly training and with the heat we had again today, he came in 36 over all out of approximately 180. I know he's not really happy with his time in general, but I am still proud.

I got up and did legs today with a quad focus. I did drop sets of 4x10 unless noted.

Static Lunges
Step Ups
Squats with low-end pulse - 8 single, 4 3-count pulse, 2 7-count pulse, 8 single
Static lunges with low-end pulse - 8 single, 4 3-count pulse, 2 7-count pulse, 8 single
Fire walkers - 8 reps
Side slide lunges - 3x10
Outer thigh raises with ankle weights - 24 single, 16 little pulse, 24 single

I finished the workout off with Cathe Friedrich's MMA Boxing and a long stretch.

Major Lazy Sunday

After my workout, I ate then headed outside for some more patio and pool time (and reading). I was pretty lazy today with the exception of my workout. After Jason got home, he wanted to go eat at Vino's. So that's what we did. One of our friends (who also did the race this morning as well) joined us. We just sat back and relaxed for a few hours doing some major people watching and catching up.

I had really planned on spending some time in the kitchen making seitan and possibly veggie burgers. But right now we can't get the kitchen below 81 degrees without any cooking going on. So, needless to say, boiling beans and seitan would definitely not be a pleasant thing. We are supposed to have cooler weather by Tuesday - as in highs only being 96. I am really hoping this pans out so I can get some cooking done. We are completely out of veggie burgers right now, and I really want to have some extra seitan on hand as well.

Dinner tonight will likely end up being some sort of salad. We probably not going to do any grilling, but we'll see. Because we had such a late lunch, I don't know what time we'll even feel like eating.  It's really hard to even get excited about cooking and eating when it's so hot. My appetite has taken a total nose dive to be quite honest.

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

  1. I am proud of Jason too! I am with you on the heat and feeling like not heating up the kitchen. I am almost done with laundry and have kind of lost momentum! I hope you have a great night!

  2. Thanks for letting me know about Cathe. About to click to check it out.

Congrats to the hubby! He did great.

  3. Sometimes I feel guilty for lazy days but I remind myself that I need them! And the past few days I didn't have much of an appetite either and today I have literally been eating ALL day! So it all balances out!

    in reply to your comment:
The Lovely Bones(movie) is really good, it tries to follow the story line of the book…but doesn’t quite capture the books AMAZING-ness!…I definitely recommend it though!

  5. Congrats to Jason!!! Sounds VERY impressive to me!

  6. Wow, that's amazing!! Bet you are a proud wife!! Great job! And to you too, you did a kickass workout!

  7. I really hate squats. :( I love working my legs, but squats are the devil.

I had a semi-productive but mostly lazy Sunday. I cleaned the casa, went to the pool, cooked, and did a few 20 minute yoga sessions. Nothing major.

  8. way to take some heather time. and not be all rushing around and stressed. this is what weekend are for!! amen to that!!! :)

  9. Don't you just love lazy sundays! Sounds like you had a great one and congrats to your hubby....great job!

  10. I think lazy Sundays should be the rule not the exception. We all need time to relax before starting the week. You should not feel the slightest bit quilty.

Sorry to hear about your weather. I hope it cools down a little soon so you can get back into the kitchen.

Congrats to Jason for showing up in this heat. I would have bailed for sure. You should be proud of him!

  11. dude, I played hooky kinda and left my yoga teacher train early to do what???? nothing! I didnt clean or anything I wanted! I just sat on my couch and ate some ice cream! we need those lazy days to be balanced! You and Jason should come on to California and bask in the 68 and breezy!

  12. Congrats to Jason :-) Hope your kitchen cools down soon!!

  13. Congratulations Jason! He still did great. I don't blame you for not heating up the kitchen. I baked oatmeal cookies on a really hot day last week and the kitchen was brutally hot. Happpy Monday girl!

  14. I'm going to have to look up fire walkers after I leave this comment. I know what you mean about the heat. You really can't do much of anything when it's so hot!

  15. Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen I think laundry is always the momentum stopper!

Tina @ Faith Fitness and Fun Thanks girl - I'll be passing along all of the congrats.

Megan @ The Oatmeal Diaries I know it's good to let myself enjoy a lazy day (or that's what I'm trying to tell myself anyway). I'm sure my appetite will kick back up too ;-)

Lizzy @ Healthy Bites Conquer Athlete Appetite Cool - thanks for the info.

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg Impressive to me too!

Jolene @ To Be Determined Thanks girl - I don't think my workouts rank up there with his tri though LOL.

Krystina @ Organically Me I have a love/hate relationship with working legs period. Necessary evil I suppose. Sounds like you had a nice day!

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga Thanks so much - it sounds way better when you put it like that.

Bela @ It's Life, Max it Out Thanks for the congrats. I think I need to learn to let myself be lazy without guilt. It was nice relaxing of course.

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean You're right, they should be the rule. I would have definitely stayed in bed too!

Eden's Eats Sounds like a fine idea - visiting California. Oh, and relaxing on the couch with ice cream isn't a shabby idea either ;-)

Laura @ Box Run Eat Thanks so much!

Lindsay @ Pancakes N Pajamas Hot kitchens take the fun out of being in there.

Eunice @ Food 4 Fitness Let me know if you don't find a video. I had posted one a while back that shows what they are - ouchies.... ;-)

  16. I hear you on the appetite. The heat has officially killed mine!

  17. Nothing wrong with taking a mental health day. WOW, your hubs did GREAT!! I wish I could get away with a place like that without busting my tail in training, lol.

  18. WOW!! Your hubby did great, despite what he thinks. And you're STILL an awesome wifey even if you didn't go to this race in particular :-) Sounds like you had a great weekend, dear!

  19. Lazy sundays are the best! And after a good work out, I can relax guilt free ;) Usually Sunday turn into laundry/grocery shopping days though :)

  20. Madeline @ Greens and Jeans Glad I'm not alone on this one.

Nichole @ Live for the Run Mental health days are definitely needed from time-to-time!

Jessica @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat Thanks sweetie - hope yours was equally as good.

Liz @ Living Vegan I try really hard to get the errands done during the week now. Hate to have my weekends eaten up by errands.

  21. Congrats to Jason!! I love lazy sundays especially if when you have a pool to lay by ;) I think you are allowed to enjoy this beautiful lazy time when the summer is here!

    Have a great day!

Workout Wednesday - Body Blaster Tabata

Happy Hump Day! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post: Be Kinder to Your Body. Calories are Not the Enemy . It sounds like it resonated with many of you. Today I wanted to share a new workout with you. I've been working on interval workouts for some of my clients. I try to give them the most bang for their buck (time). I know that in an ideal world, we would all have time to do longer workouts. There would never be scheduling conflicts, sick husbands or kids, or sick us. In reality, workouts need to be effective and efficient. And they don't have to be lengthy to be effective and efficient either. There's no need to spend hours in a gym to get in a good workout. Interval workouts like HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) or tabata, or even interval running are great ways to get in a fantastic workout in a short amount of time and have many benefits. You can read more about Tabata workouts  here . Piriformis Update & Grilled Veggie Salad

New Piriformis Exercises Today wasn't too terrible for a Monday. Of course, I did leave a little early. That always helps huh ;-) I had another round of physical therapy today. My PT has been really researching piriformis syndrome and found an interesting article that discusses the use of McKenzie Exercises - typically used for back pain. I have started adding in low back extensions (one of the exercises) but now have a whole new list of exercises to add into my workout rotations. But, if it helps, I'll do it. I also asked her about dry needling (thanks Sarena ), which is sort of similar to acupuncture, but is more about trigger point and intramuscular stimulation. And I'm glad I asked because the timing is uncanny. One of the doctor's in the clinic happens to be going to get certified this weekend. They both believe that I am a prime candidate for the procedure. So we'll see how that goes. Kind of scared because I hate hate hate needles. Have any of you tr
