Missing My Mojo on Monday

Summer Salad
Dinner last night ended up being a Grilled Tempeh & Veggie Salad. I grilled sweet potatoes, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, and tempeh (which was marinated in a balsamic vinaigrette). We piled everything on top of a mix of red leaf lettuce and baby spinach. This has become one of my favorite summer meals I do believe.

Missing My Mojo
So this morning I slept in rather than get up for my workouts. I was planning on either biceps or shoulders at lunch and knew I could get in cardio after work. I decided to change up my splits this week. I've been doing biceps and triceps together for too many weeks now. Change is good. So I went with biceps and abs at lunch:

Dumbbell bicep curls 3x8
Hammer curls 3x7 (just couldn't manage 8 reps with the weight I used)
Concentration curls 3x8
Dumbbell biceps curls - 21's

I did abs from Cathe Friedrich's Cardio & Weights DVD. After work I did a cardio only premix from Low Impact Circuit.

I must admit that today was a mojo-less day for me. I guess it was the Monday blues perhaps. But in all honesty, I didn't want to do a single workout. I really wanted to leave work early and go hole up in my bed for the duration of the day. Doing the biceps and abs at lunch did help improve my mood a little bit at least. But the cardio workout felt like some huge ominous cloud for me today.

I do think that sometimes my mood swings are also a result of being in a window-less office. I typically have no idea what the weather is like until I get up to go to the restroom and pass a window or leave for lunch. To me, it always looks dark out. I even tried getting special light bulb for desk lamps. Anyone else work in a similar environment? Do you feel like your mood is often affected by seeing or not seeing the light of day?

I did receive a very special gift today that helped my mood (and my desk). I got a strange call from someone trying to find my office. They said they had a delivery. Then the guard called from the guard station saying I had a gift. To my surprise, Jason had sent me flowers! I wasn't sure whether to cry or smile or both. Neither of us are terribly mushy gushy (he is more than me), but today these flowers were the perfect gift at the perfect time.

Dinner
I guess tonight is a semi-Mexican Monday meal. There are Mexican or Tex-Mex undertones at least. Jason has been wanting to do a pineapple salsa over Quorn Chikn' Patties with brown rice and black beans that I call Colorful Black Beans. We topped the beans with Daiya Vegan Cheddar Cheese. For the rice, I added in diced green chilies, tomatoes, salt, pepper, cumin and garlic powder.

Kind of looks a bit messy, but sometimes messy is good right?

Comments

  1. This post seriously came me a craving for mexican food. ;)

Flowers are nice to get if you don't get them that often! The hubs had some for me at the end of one of my half marathons, and I was so surprised!

  2. Beautiful flowers!

I have had windowless offices in the past and they can be depressing. I found that table top fountain and small lamp with a ceramic oil diffuser which I added lavender oil to helped tremendously.

  3. Awwww, so sweet that Jason sent you flowers!

I definitely have those "mojo-less" days at the gym. Sigh. They come and go, right? Tomorrow will be better!

  4. What a good man! And I was mojo-less today too. Oh well. We all have those days and we just have to go with them.

  5. Too sweet that man of yours! I have had a horrible case of the Mondays here too. Max killed my mood this morning with his lack of motivation. UGH. I say we take a vacation in our dreams tonight. That is as close to a vacation as I will get any time soon. I hope you have a good night cuddling with your pups and that great man of yours!

  6. I hate those days when the mojo disappears! I used to work in a windowless cubbie, so I can relate. Those were some long, dark days. Your hubby was super sweet to get you those flowers! He needs to talk to my bf ;)

  7. Aw, Heather. I hope you get your mojo back. But it's okay to take a break. I'm sure your body just needed the break too.

How sweet and romantic of Jason! :D

  8. "I do think that sometimes my mood swings are also a result of being in a window-less office."--THAT hugely effects mood! i used to work in offices, here and there in my distant past LOL and not being able to see the light of day made me horribly moody and emotional.

the flowers...omg, how sweet!!!! xoxoxo that is just awesome!

  12. I once had a windowless office BUT I had one wall that was wall papered in white board paper so one of my co-workers drew a window on it for me. It still makes me smile!

By the way...those flowers are lovely. What a great hubby you have!

  13. Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete Oh you totally deserve flowers at the end of your races girl - you rock 'em!!!

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean I think the oil might be a good call as long as it didn't offend anyone else of course. That would be my only worry. I could totally go for the sound of a fountain.

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg Yep, each day is a new day!

Tina @ Faith Fitness and Fun Hate that you lost your mojo on your bday nonetheless. Can't wait to see what your hubby surprised you with.

Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen I think the Mondays were going around for sure. Hope you get a vacation soon!

Eunice @ Food 4 Fitness Haha, maybe your bf needs to read this particular post huh ;-)

Madeline @ Greens and Jeans I agree ;-)

Sophia @ Burp & Slurp Thanks for the support girl. I really appreciate it!

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga I really think it makes a big impact. I am a sunshine kind of girl!

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel Interesting idea on the full moon. I always forget to pay attention to my moods to see if there's any validity to it. Yes, cardboard box and fluorescent faux light!

April @ The Weigh I Am LOL, good point. I am so spoiled living so close to my house!

Laura @ Box Run Eat Funny how that works isn't it?

Joanna Sutter @ Fitness & Spice Maybe I need to bring up a large picture of a window and outdoor scenery?! I agree, the flowers are gorgeous (may be a bit biased of course).

  14. Beautiful flowers!!!

There are only a handful of things I like about my job and one of them is the fact I sit by a huge window. However, at my last job part of our department was in a basement and it was soooo depressing, so I can understand how that could affect your mood.

  15. How sweet are those flowers? Perf for a funky day:) I went through a serious mojo-less rut last week, I am glad you still figured out something to do, that helps:)

  17. I have a window and I think that helps a ton. I am sorry that you don't. I definitely have days like you. I ended up sleeping in today and missed my workout. Sometimes you just have to listen to your body.
Glad you got some beautiful flowers!

  21. When I made my seitan it was not a "chicken" color. Any idea why?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Aww, what a sweetie :) & just what you needed! I actually do have windows in my office- SO NICE! I hear ya about not being able to see outside. My boss actually designed the office himself & one of the main things that he wanted was for everyone to be able to see outside- pretty cool, right?
I think I lost my mojo this am- just was not feeling anything! And it's so gloomy & rainy outside here today.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kristy @ The Casual Dish Thanks so much!

Kathi Not exactly sure what you mean by chicken colored, but mine are always just a pale color actually. Even using the "beef" bouillon they never really get too terribly dark. How did they taste?

Holly @ Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices How cool! Sounds like my kind of office. Hope your mood improves too girl!

  26. I blame my loss of mojo in this darn heat. It drains you, ya know? But I am sure glad you got it back. And 2 thumbs up for Jason, way to make a monday!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Julie @ Julie GoLean Thanks girl! Can't wait to hear if you try any of the recipes.

Alycia @ Fit n Fresh Oh sorry you're off too. Sounds like lots of people are feeling this way.

Lindsay @ Cotter Crunch I am with you on the heat part. It definitely zaps you, and probably more than we realize too.

  28. So sweet of Jason to send you those flowers! I absolutely love getting flowers - they can brighten up any day for me.

I totally understand what you're saying about not seeing daylight all day. Last year my classroom didn't have a window and even the hallway outside didn't have any windows. It was really depressing somedays! Maybe getting some plants or something would help?!

Hope you've felt better since Monday - I'm about to catch up on your posts. I've been having the blues this week due to computer issues, and I've missed my favorite blogs!

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
