Fun For Friday - Theme-less

Well, it's Friday. That means Fun for Friday of course - as well as the Happy Friday Dance! It also meant my long run for the week. This morning I accidentally set my alarm 10 minutes earlier than what I had meant. That meant a 5 am wakeup call rather than a 5:10 wake up call. And yes, those precious 10 minutes do matter.

It was thundering with spotty lightening when I rolled out of bed. The plan was that Jason was going to run a couple of miles with me, then I was meeting Amy to run the rest of the miles. My goal was to get in 10.

It was sprinkling a little before we headed out. Jason actually asked, "Are you really going out in that?" Um, yes and so are you buddy. It wasn't bad though, the rain part. The humidity, however, was oppressive. I need to grow gills apparently. Have I mentioned before how much I hate humidity? No? Surely I have...

The rain stopped completely by the time I met up with Amy. Man I missed that rain. We were both dripping as if we'd been in a downpour. I was praying for that downpour mind you. It was a rough one. We had to stop for her to stretch her foot, then stop for traffic (thought that pause was much-welcomed), then stop for my foot. Hot messes on so many levels.

At least we were still able to chat it up, laugh a little, sometimes for no reason other than the shear absurdity of the humidity. That's what running partners are for though right? Help you get through those tough runs with a smile on your face.

I have no theme for this post. You'd think it would involve the run this morning. But I guess I already told you all about it. Sometimes theme-less is a-ok right?

  • Chapstick works in lieu of BodyGlide in a pinch.
  • Pinterest makes me want to go dumpster diving.
  • I will never understand how bananas can go from "just" right to ick in a matter of minutes, ok, in a day.
  • Short weeks can sometimes feel so much longer.
  • Keeping frozen veggies on hand is a must especially when you're too lazy to go to the store post-vacation.
  • How can it be thundering and lightening when the radar clearly shows nothing?
  • It's really hard to give a dog his medicine when he's terrified of storms (storms not supposed to be occurring mind you).
  • 9 mile run in 73 degree, 100% humidity weather means cold shower and standing in front of a fan to try to get ready for work (plus the ability to literally wring out your shorts).
  • I just realized that having a theme can at least give you more ideas ;-)
  • It was creepy to have a random guy on a bike leering/ogling us this morning, especially considering how we looked.
Your turn - theme-less thought for the day OR theme or no theme?

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
