Kicking, Running, Grilling

Kicking and Running
This morning I got up when Jason did at 5 am. He left for swim and I opted for a kickboxing workout rather than step. I chose Cathe's Kick Punch and Crunch DVD because it also include a good stability ball abs workout. I didn't want to do a very long cardio session because Jason and I were planning to run at lunch. The great thing about this DVD is that it has tons of premix options. I also used 1 lb weighted gloves.

Do you ever use weighted gloves for kickboxing?

I was really in sort of a funk today. It was definitely a "Blue Day" for me. That's what my great-grandmother used to call down days. The sun was out early on, but then it started to cloud up around lunchtime. It's supposed to rain tonight and into tomorrow, hence part of the reason for running at lunch, get it in while it's nice. It did end up being mostly sunny by the afternoon. I was also hoping that I could run off some of the funk I was feeling. It was really nice to get out of the office and be outside with Jason. It helped my mood a little, but I guess it was just one of those kinds of days if you know what I mean.

I kept trying to remind myself of the many things I have to be thankful for and all the positives throughout the day. I even revisited some wise posts that I recently read with fantastic "thoughts to remember" by Jessica @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat and Candice @ ChiaSeedMe. Even though I read those words and they completely struck a chord with me, I needed more than words today. Nevertheless, they are great daily reminders to carry along (and share). I have a few ideas of why I'm feeling down, and I tried to work through those in my head and sharing with Jason. (Sorry for being a Debbie Downer.)

What do you do to try to get yourself out of a funk?

Wednesday Grilling
It's safe to say I wasn't really much in the mood for cooking or thinking anything fun and new to make. Jason offered to take over the dinner duties. With the weather being so nice, he was itching to grill as I've been the one wo-manning the grill lately. So, he grilled Quorn Naked Chik'n Cutlets with BBQ sauce. He also grilled broccoli and red onion to go over our nuked sweet potatoes (I was way too hungry to wait to grill them). It was sort of a meat and potatoes, manly-ish meal.

I really enjoy grilled broccoli. It adds just a slightly different flavor. I also love piling on veggies on top of my sweet potatoes, which I actually spice with a mix I pre-make that includes salt, pepper, cumin, red pepper, chili powder, and garlic.

  1. So sorry you're having a blue day, girl...I definitely have had my fair share of those lately. Getting outside for some fresh air definitely helps. Talking to a friend or family member also tends to lift me out of my funk.

    Hope tomorrow is better!

  4. Hey Jolene @ To Be Determined ! It was definitely a great post. Very appropriate for the day. I'm glad I did KPC too. It's a fun one. Hard to hate punching out aggression right?! LOL

  5. When I am blue I call or email a friend. That always seems to help. A nice run outside is another good option. Swimming is another thing that cheers me up, but only it is outside.

Your Quorn always looks so good. That is the one thing I miss really being vegan.

    talk to you soon,
    Alicia

  6. Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean we really love the Quorn products b/c it's a nice soy alternative. I usually don't want to call or email people when I'm down b/c I don't want to dump on others. I know that's silly 'cause that's what family and friends are there for.

Oh, and I am so with you on piling veggies on my sweet potatoes. That seasoning combination sounds perfect, too. I must try it!

    You are such a sweetheart:)

  10. Sorry you were in a bit of a funk today. We all have those days. Sometimes I will try to read a good book or watch one of my favorite movies to make me feel better.

  12. Candice @ ChiaSeedMe Thanks so much! Let me know how you like the seasonings for sweet potatoes.

Kristen @ Swanky Dietitian a funny movie or an old fave would have been perfect. That's exactly what I should have done! I'll store that one away.

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga I think some ice cream may have helped me out, or cookies!! LOL. MMMMM

  13. Everyone is allowed to have an off day! For me usually coffee and a book helps! :)

  14. Aww I'm sending you a virtual hug right now!! Did you get it yet? ;) Seriously though, you KNOW I know just how that "blue" feeling feels lately and it's the worst. I am SO GLAD my "blooming" post helped a little. I'm still focused on it myself, trying to remember to bloom, bloom, bloom! :)

  15. I hope you are out of whatever funk you are in right now. I hate those days and they happen to all of us. When I get in those situations I try to focus on the positives like you. And if that doesn't help I will just lose myself in a good book or tv show. LOL Distraction at its best! ;)

  16. Kelly @ Healthy Living with Kelly Thanks lady! I think coffee would have wound me tighter LOL.

Jessica @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat Thanks for the hug and your post!!!

Tina @ Tina Bit of Faith Fun and Fitness You're right, sometimes distractions can be a very good thing. Sometimes it's the too much thinking that gets us in trouble to begin with!

Plantar Fasciitis Woes & Way to Go Wednesday Shout Outs

I wanted to thank everyone again for your many congratulations on completing and getting a PR at my recent half marathon. The support and words mean so much to me.

My legs feel absolutely fine after the race. I could have run yesterday if it weren't for my left foot. So right now I'm trying to heal my left foot. I mentioned that I've been having problems with plantar fasciitis in that foot and that it was the cause of much pain during the race. Since the race, I've been unable to walk on it very well. Lots of hobbling going on.

I've been icing it and trying to keep it elevated. But, I noticed that it's started to get some bruising, not horrible, but worrisome. Not sure if it's better or worse for it to be discolored vs red and swollen. However, this could be indicitive of a tear.
But, my bigger concern with the bruising is that indication that there's been bleeding. Being on Xarelto for the blood clot means my blood doesn't clot very well these days…

Let's Have Coffee

If you're a regular blog reader, I'm sure you've seen similar posts, scenarios if you will, about what we might chat about or what I might say if we sat down and had coffee together.

I think these can be fun. Maybe fun isn't the right word choice exactly. But maybe it is? They're transparent, showing who the blogger really is ... if they're being honest of course. It's not often you truly get to sit down with the person behind the blog.

If we were to have coffee together ...

I would first let you know that I'm not a super fan of coffee. I drink mine with hot cocoa and it's mostly out of habit rather than the need for caffeine. I could forgo it on the weekends entirely.

Since we're talking coffee, I would also let you know that I've never ordered coffee from Starbucks and only once from a true coffee shop. I've only been into 2 Starbucks shops - the original in Seattle and one in town where I ordered a bottle of tea when meeting a friend. …

Jewelry and Overcoming the Fear of Failure

I guess I can blame this little hobby on Pinterest - jewelry making. More specifically, metal-stamped jewelry. Wasting time, skimming through Pinterest or seeing people posting pics of metal-stamped bracelets or necklaces, I thought, "hey, surely I can do that."

So I started pinning ideas, looking up how-to videos, ordering the tools. Boxes of tools, gadgets and goods started arriving on the daily. I know my husband was really excited. Yep, I was going to do this!

I felt like the child set free in a toy store. I didn't even know where to begin exactly. But I had some ideas. Lots and lots of ideas. I'm an idea girl as you'll soon learn. I set out my tools of the trade, all neat and tidy on my kitchen table ready to begin. Luckily, my husband who sits back and watches stepped in with some ideas on ways I could practice the stamping without using the more expensive washers and bars I'd so eagerly purchased. Smart man.

What I didn't take into consideration wa…
