Let's Talk Music for Fun Facts Friday

Rest Day
Well, today is an official rest day. I definitely need it after yesterday's weights. I am definitely feeling it in my legs and back (which is rare, but good). We had a storm blow through yesterday afternoon, and it really cooled things down. So, this morning would have been sooo nice for a really easy, waking up type of run. But, I behaved and didn't get up to run.

Tomorrow we are supposed to be doing a 5K (Rock 'n Stroll), and I am really hoping for another cool, pleasant morning. I know we're in for sunshine for the long weekend at least.

Speaking of, long weekends, mine already seems filled up. Of course, it's mostly fun stuff so I can't complain:
  • Tonight we're going to a baseball game at 6.
  • Tomorrow morning we have the race - it's the first year for this one.
  • My mom and sister will be coming up around noon for some girl time. I plan on making lunch then we'll do a bit of shopping.
  • Saturday night we will be attending Riverfest and seeing the Black Crows play. Really excited about this. This will be the first time in several years that we get to go to Riverfest. Typically we schedule our beach vacation over Memorial weekend and miss the festival.
  • Sunday we desperately need to attend to yard work and may had back down to Riverfest (it goes from Fri-Sun). I do plan on a little patio lounging time of course. That's a must for a long, holiday weekend.
Do you have any big plans? Do you prefer to be busy or just chill out and do nothing on extended weekends?

Fun Facts Friday
So I hope you aren't getting bored with Fun Facts Friday yet. I think it's rather fun. I love to hear your fun facts (hint hint). Since we'll be attending a concert (maybe a couple since there will be many bands playing all weekend), I thought today I'd do some fun facts about concerts:
1.  Def Leppard with my first concert. It was December 1992; my senior year of high school. Can we say contact high? The place was nothing but a dense haze if you catch my drift.

2.  I watched the Black Crows perform in 1993 from the 2nd row of the orchestra pit. This is why I am so excited to get to see them again. Of course, I am certain I will be nowhere close to the front of the stage this time around. I will not be with 6 other females (which is how we ended up in the front mind you). I'll also not have been chugging beers in the parking deck minutes prior to the concert...

3.  Got to sit in 4th row to see Aerosmith in 1993. Apparently '93 was my year for awesome concerts and getting to sit up front. For this concert, we had seats really far away and high up. We got there early and someone "with the band" actually traded out our tickets for the 4th row seats. Those seats were all giveaways and could not have been purchased. Woohoo for having super cute girlfriends!

So let me hear it. Got a good concert story? What was your first concert?

Wow-- you sound like you have such a fun weekend planned! I'm jealous!

My first concert was a Jimmy Buffett concert that my parents took me to when I was a little kid (maybe 7 or 8?). I saw a guy peeing in the parking lot and it traumatized me for life! Lol.

  5. What a great weekend! Can't wait to read about it next week!

I used to go to a lot of concerts because I worked for a record label. It's fun at first, but then it just becomes work. I always enjoy seeing Jamie Cullum perform though - jumping off pianos and such. Last summer we went to All Points West and got stuck in a downpour. It was awesome! Music and rain, it really enhances the experience, as weird as that sounds! Have fun!

  6. Kelly @ Healthy Living with Kelly Oh girl you must change that!

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel I'll still read the blog of course! Have fun tomorrow!

Chelsea @ The Healthy Munchkin How fun to go see someone many times! I think you get a diff. experience each time.

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg LOL - sadly I've been one to pee in the parking lot now I wonder if I have traumatized anyone!!!

Lisa @ Early Morning Run I've been to a concert in the rain too. It's funny how you end up not even realizing that you're being rained on - any other time you'd be annoyed! Hope you have a great weekend!

  17. I have to say clearly I am older than all your other readers. My first concert was The Rolling Stones Miss You tour. ;-)

I have an "interesting concert story", it was my last I might add. We had stood in line all night long to get Jimmy Buffet tickets because he sells out in 20 minutes here. When the concert finaly came there were 40 of us together on the lawn (a bunch of sailboaters from the marina). Some kids (16-18ish) were behind us and trashed out of their minds. The one behind me was smoking and caught my hair on fire. Thankfully she just got the ends but I had to cut 6 inches from my hair. That was it for Jimmy Buffet and me. Though I can look at it now and laugh. It was not the slightest bit funny 8 years ago.

Can't wait to hear how the race went. ;-)

    Enjoy your weekend,
    Ali

  19. Sophia @ Burp & Slurp Ah, that sounds like a good weekend to me!

Jolene @ Everyday Foodie Oh wow, I hadn't thought of Veruca Salt (or Bush for that matter) in ages. Fun!! I agree on staying home to get things done too. It's fun to be busy sometimes too though.

Alicia @ Vegan Epicurean If it makes you feel better, I know a few readers are older than you - they just lurk a bit more. And it's not about age right?! Ok, I'm thinking I'd not be going to any more concerts after that either!!!!

Holly @ Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices Thanks girl!

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
