Workouts by 6:40 am = Free Evening

Must Run Kind of Morning Last night we had a front move through that finally cooled us down below 100 degrees. They forecast it to be 73 degrees this morning, which is downright cold at this point. I knew that I was going to run no matter what. The only problem is that it's staying dark much later. I used to be able to head out at 5:45 am with some light, now it's almost 6 until there is any sort of light. So, I decided to do biceps and triceps first while waiting for it to get light enough to safely run. I did drop sets again 4 x 10 except for preacher curls, and they were killer for me this morning. Felt super weak. But, I got it done. Hammer curls Overhead triceps extension Zottman curls Kickbacks Preacher curls 4x8 (seriously loathe these) Lying dumbbell triceps extensions 1 set of 21's for biceps curls (7 half up, 7 half down, 7 full) Weighted triceps dips - 16 reps Jason ran with me. We did a fairly easy 4-mile run. It felt so nice to be able to run with...

Baked Burritos for Mexican Monday

Salad Sunday First off, Jason and I want to thank everyone for your congrats regarding his triathlon on Sunday. It means a lot having so much support. Last night I ended up turning on the oven after all. It was cooler than grilling. I roasted up some veggies: red and green bell peppers, onions, sweet potato, squash, and zucchini along with some tofu for a Roasted Veggie Salad . The tofu was awesome. It's a new brand, or rather, one we have not tried before - Twin Oaks Community Foods Organic Tofu "Fine Herb" . Jason picked it up from the Argenta Market . This was an awesome tofu actually. It didn't need to be frozen, pressed, or anything. It was already "dry." I simply cubed it and baked it for about 25 minutes at 425 degrees flipping at least once. We will most definitely be buying this one again. Monday Workouts This morning I knew I wasn't going to be getting up for any workouts. While I am getting more consistent about getting up early for m...

Lazy Sunday

Hubby Does Triathlon, I Do Weights & Boxing This morning Jason got up super early to head down to Lake DeGray for this triathlon. I feel like the bad wife, I stayed behind and slept in until about 8 am. He gave me the OK to stay home for this one though. He hadn't been training like he normally would and knew it wouldn't be his best race. However, for someone not properly training and with the heat we had again today, he came in 36 over all out of approximately 180. I know he's not really happy with his time in general, but I am still proud. I got up and did legs today with a quad focus. I did drop sets of 4x10 unless noted. Squats Static Lunges Step Ups Squats with low-end pulse - 8 single, 4 3-count pulse, 2 7-count pulse, 8 single Static lunges with low-end pulse - 8 single, 4 3-count pulse, 2 7-count pulse, 8 single Fire walkers - 8 reps Side slide lunges - 3x10 Outer thigh raises with ankle weights - 24 single, 16 little pulse, 24 single I finished th...

Wrestling and Amazing Grass

Ballgame Recap with Midget Wrestling Last night's game was much better than Thursday's game. It was still hot, but there was a stronger breeze blowing through that helped tremendously. Even better, we won. That certainly can't hurt. The game started later than the normal 7:10 start time because of Midget Wrestling. Yep, you read that correctly. This is Jason's day to go to the ballpark. We hadn't planned it this way, we just got "lucky." I think it's totally obnoxious, but he gets a big kick out of it. Here are a few pictures of the wrestling then of me and two of my friends and then me and Jason. I goofed and didn't get a picture of the guys. Very intense moment. No words to describe. I have no idea why I am leaning in so far. Thank you dear for putting the beer down for the picture. Chest, Back, Abs Oh My I kicked my day off with a good chest and back workout. I did drop sets of 4 sets of 8 decreasing the weight in between each...

Tempeh, Baseball & If You Really Knew Me (Fun Facts Friday)

Dinner & Baseball I thought dinner was going to be fairly simple. However, in true Heather fashion the plan for a simple wrap with a garlic hummus turned into Poached Tempeh Sandwiches with baked sweet potato "fries." So much for fast, easy, simple huh? I threw together a super fast, simple garlic hummus and decided to try poaching tempeh in 1 cup of water with 1 low-sodium vegetable bouillon cube for flavor. I was hoping that this method would add more flavor to the tempeh. I poached on one side for about 10 minutes and then flipped and continued to cook until liquid was gone (another 8-10 minutes). I then placed the tempeh slices on a cookie sheet and baked for 10 minutes on each side at 425 degrees (with the potatoes). I smeared sandwich thins with the garlic hummus and stacked the tempeh with spinach, roasted red bell peppers, and Follow Your Heart Vegan Monterey Jack . I put the sandwiches back in the oven just to melt the "cheese." The poaching did...

Holy Heat and Humidity

Thank You! I wanted to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions in regards to updating my blog and new commenting tools. I am definitely going to be adding the following tabs: About Me Blogroll Recipes Workouts (though still not sure how I'll handle) I hope this cleans up the site a bit. I also need to get a new About Me picture - any professional photographers want to help me out? ;-) I do apologize in advance for any disruption caused by changing to a new commenting tool. I'll be sure to give a heads up when this happens so you'll know to expect it. I'm hoping it won't be a total disaster. Sweaty Mess Before bed, Jason promised to get up to go run with me this morning. I set the alarm for 5:17 am so he would have plenty of time to wake up and get ready (he can be slow, sorry honey, but it's true). I can seriously jump out of bed, throw on my workout clothes, and put in my contacts within minutes and be ready to hit the pavement. Jason...not ...

No Whimpy Wednesday

Rewind to Tuesday - Taco Bowls I made a big oops in my dinner post last night. I apologize because I was rushing through and failed to explain the "bowl" part. I actually started making them after reading about how easy they were to make on many other blogs. They are super simple to make and a fun alternative to a burrito or quesadilla. How to make a Taco Salad Bowl : Preheat oven to 425 degrees F Prepare a pyrex bowl (or other oven-safe baking bowl) with a non-stick spray. Insert your favorite flour tortilla  (I use a whole-wheat variety) and shape - you will have some fluted edges. Bake for approximately 15 minutes until golden and crispy. No Whimpy Wednesday Well, I must admit to having very little sleep yet again. One of our sweet furbabies is about to start sleeping downstairs. I love her dearly, but the girl doesn't stop moving...ever. She wakes up frequently throughout the night to itch, lick, move about her kennel, causing general raucous. She seems to...
