I'm Still Here

Oh you know, the gal that used to blog ...

After 5 1/2 years of blogging, I simply needed a break. I needed to reconnect to my life, not an online life. It was beyond refreshing I must say.

Also, I felt like my posts were starting to feel contrived, especially after finishing my first full marathon and then ending up sidelined with that good old stress fracture.

I didn't know what more to say.

I wasn't feeling inspired in the kitchen.

I most definitely wasn't inspired by running, since I couldn't. I didn't want my posts to be all "woe is me" because in the grand scheme of everything in life, my life wasn't necessarily bad. I was just having some set backs.

After my injury, I set on the road to regaining my running endurance - both distance and cardiovascular endurance. It was hard. It was frustrating. Any runner who's been sidelined knows all about the comeback game. It's as mentally challenging as it is physically challenging.

I ended up able to run the Little Rock Half Marathon. Definitely not my best time in several years, but I was happy just the same because it meant I was back to running. Injuries will certainly help you change your perspective on things.

Since I last left you (I know everyone has been glued to their feeds waiting for a post right?) ...
  • I've been running with my awesome running partners (Must give a HUGE shout out to L in the yellow for a 10 min PR at Boston!!! Hello awesomeness.)
  • I ran a 10K, the Little Rock Downtown Dash 
  • I ran the RussVegas Half Marathon
  • I've put together a couple of new recipes 
  • I registered for the Chicago Marathon (<<<< WOW)
I plan on recapping the races and sharing the recipes individually. I just wanted to do a quick post to give a few updates and hope that I have a few readers still around!

Plantar Fasciitis Woes & Way to Go Wednesday Shout Outs

I wanted to thank everyone again for your many congratulations on completing and getting a PR at my recent half marathon. The support and words mean so much to me.

My legs feel absolutely fine after the race. I could have run yesterday if it weren't for my left foot. So right now I'm trying to heal my left foot. I mentioned that I've been having problems with plantar fasciitis in that foot and that it was the cause of much pain during the race. Since the race, I've been unable to walk on it very well. Lots of hobbling going on.

I've been icing it and trying to keep it elevated. But, I noticed that it's started to get some bruising, not horrible, but worrisome. Not sure if it's better or worse for it to be discolored vs red and swollen. However, this could be indicitive of a tear.
But, my bigger concern with the bruising is that indication that there's been bleeding. Being on Xarelto for the blood clot means my blood doesn't clot very well these days…

What Happened Last Night?
This morning I woke up first at 6:20 when Maddie decided she wanted out of her kennel and to be downstairs. The second time was 8:09 when Heath decided he wanted out of his kennel and downstairs to eat. I won't like, I would like to (needed to) have slept another two hours. It was a little slow going after last night.

Sign of a good party would be my first tweet of the day:  I'm thinking there is a bird in the house...what the hell happened last night???

Yep, found bird poop where bird poop most definitely should not be. Still have not found said bird however.

It should go without saying that last night was a total blast. It was so fun having everyone just be relaxed and comfy in jammies. I am not known for letting loose often, but I definitely went with it last night. There was a bit (lot) of wine consumed, pizza devoured and even some dancing.












Reintroducing Myself

We'll begin with the basics. I'm Heather. I started this blog in 2009 with the intent of sharing my love of exercise and healthy eating (and a little bit of personal stuff of course). I blogged, and blogged and blogged my heart out. Every.Single.Day.

I forgot how to sit down to eat without a) typing it up in the blog and b) photographing it. We didn't have hot meals for quite some time I might add. I was doing it all wrong of course. But, at the time, I loved it. I loved sharing my ideas for healthy, tasty, vegetarian foods.

Blogging also gave me an outlet to share my passion for exercise - lifting weights, HIIT workouts, running, even following along to DVDs at home. It was probably one of the boosts I needed to finally pursue my quiet goal of becoming a certified personal trainer.

My blogging style began to shift. My focus was shifting. My desire was shifting. The less I blogged, the more time I had. The more I felt I could breathe. I wasn't comparing my food to othe…
